Fly Net Sliding Doors: Complete Guide for Dubai Homes

Breeze In. Bugs Out.

A fly net sliding door is a mesh screen panel mounted on rollers that glides along a track in front of your sliding glass door. It lets fresh air flow into your home while keeping mosquitoes, flies, and dust outside. In Dubai, where balcony doors stay open for much of the year, this type of screen is one of the most practical upgrades you can make to a home.

Every screen we build is workshop-made in Dubai to the exact size of your door opening, so it fits flush against the frame with no gaps for insects to slip through. If you are comparing options, our main page on sliding door fly screens covers the full range we make, from standard balcony panels to large patio doors.

What a Fly Net Sliding Door Actually Is

The screen is a lightweight aluminium frame filled with insect mesh, fitted with rollers top and bottom. It sits in its own track, separate from the glass door, so the two panels move independently. You can open the glass for air and keep the mesh closed, or slide the mesh aside when you want the full opening.

The frame is usually powder-coated to match or complement your existing door frame. Common choices are white, black, and bronze tones, but the frame can be matched to most aluminium finishes found in UAE apartments and villas. The mesh itself is a woven fiberglass or polyester screen with openings small enough to block mosquitoes but open enough to let air pass through freely.

How the Track and Roller System Works

The screen panel hangs from the top track on small rollers and is guided by a bottom rail. Good rollers make the difference between a door that glides with one finger and one that sticks and rattles. We use nylon and stainless steel rollers that stand up to heat and daily use without seizing.

The track can be fitted in two ways. If your door frame already has a screen channel, the new panel drops straight in. If not, we fit a slim secondary track inside the existing frame. Either way, the installation does not damage the door or the surrounding wall, which matters for tenants and for anyone who wants a clean, reversible fit.

For wider openings, two screen panels can meet in the middle with a meeting rail, each sliding to opposite sides. This keeps individual panels light and easy to move even on very wide doors.

Mesh Options for a Fly Net Sliding Door

The standard mesh is fiberglass, and it suits most homes. It resists tearing, does not corrode, and holds its shape in the heat. If you have pets that scratch at doors, a thicker pet-resistant mesh is worth considering. It is harder for claws to puncture and still lets air through.

For homes near construction or busy roads, a finer mesh cuts down on dust coming through the opening. Finer weaves reduce airflow slightly, so it is a trade-off between dust control and ventilation. During the free measurement visit, we can show you mesh samples so you can see and feel the difference before you decide.

How They Are Measured and Fitted

A fly net sliding door has to match the opening within millimeters. We measure the height and width of the door frame at several points, because frames are rarely perfectly square, and we check the existing track or the space available for a new one. The measurement visit is free, and the quote is free at the measurement visit, so there is no obligation.

Back at the workshop in Dubai, the aluminium frame is cut, mitred, and joined to your measurements, the mesh is stretched and fitted, and the rollers and handles are installed. Fitting at your home is usually quick. The technician places the panel in the track, adjusts the rollers for height, and checks that it slides smoothly and seals fully at the sides.

Keeping the Door Running Smoothly

Sand and dust are the main enemies of sliding screens in the UAE. Wiping the track with a damp cloth every few weeks keeps grit out of the rollers. A soft brush or a vacuum with a brush attachment clears dust from the mesh without damaging it.

If the door starts to drag, the rollers can usually be adjusted from the edge of the frame with a screwdriver, raising or lowering the panel back to level. Rollers, handles, and mesh can all be replaced individually, so a worn screen rarely needs a full rebuild. We carry out repairs on screens fitted by other companies as well as our own.

When a Door Needs Repair Instead of Replacement

Torn mesh, broken handles, and worn rollers are the three most common faults, and all three can be fixed without replacing the frame. If the frame itself is bent or corroded, though, a new panel made to the same measurements is usually the better route. A technician can tell you which applies at a glance during the visit.

FAQ

What is a fly net sliding door?

It is a mesh screen panel on rollers that slides along a track in front of your sliding door, letting air in while keeping insects out.

Will a fly net sliding door fit my existing balcony door?

In most cases, yes. We measure your frame at a free visit and build the panel to fit, either using an existing screen channel or fitting a slim additional track.

Does the mesh block airflow?

Standard insect mesh reduces airflow only slightly. You will still feel a breeze through the opening, just without the mosquitoes.

Can the screen be repaired if the mesh tears?

Yes. Mesh can be replaced in the existing frame, and rollers and handles are replaceable parts too.
