Choosing a door mesh screen comes down to five decisions: the opening, the users, the mesh, the frame, and the fitter. Get those right and the screen works quietly for years. This guide walks through each decision in order, so you can brief any supplier clearly or judge the advice you are given.
We build screens to order in our Dubai workshop after a free measurement visit, and the quote is free at the measurement visit. Our full range is on the sliding door fly screens page.
Start with the Opening
Look at the door the screen will serve. A sliding glass door to a balcony wants a sliding screen on a parallel track. A single swing door, like a kitchen door to the garden, wants a hinged screen. French doors or very wide openings suit pleated screens that retract out of sight.
Measure roughly, but do not order from your own measurements. Frames are rarely perfectly square, and a screen built to rough numbers leaves gaps. A proper supplier measures on site at multiple points. If a supplier is happy to build from numbers you texted them, find another supplier.
Also note which way the door operates and what sits around it. Curtains, blinds, and furniture near the track all affect the fitting, and a good measurer spots these issues before the panel is built, not after it arrives.
Think About Who Uses the Door
The household decides the durability you need. Cats climb screens, dogs paw at them, and toddlers push through them. In a pet household, pet-resistant mesh and a rigid frame are worth specifying from the start. Standard fiberglass mesh will not survive a determined cat for long.
For homes with elderly users or anyone with limited hand strength, check that the panel slides easily and the handle sits at a comfortable height. A screen that is hard to move will simply be left open, which defeats its purpose.
Match the Mesh to the Problem
Different homes fight different battles. If mosquitoes are the only issue, standard fiberglass mesh does the job and breathes best. If dust blows in from nearby construction or roads, a finer mesh filters more, at the cost of some airflow and more frequent cleaning. If pets attack the door, pet-resistant mesh is the answer. Ground-floor or heavy-use openings can justify aluminium mesh.
You can mix meshes across a home. Pet mesh on the door the dog uses, standard mesh elsewhere, fine mesh on the dusty side. There is no rule that says every screen must match.
Check the Frame and Hardware
The frame should be powder-coated aluminium, cut to your measurements, with mitred and joined corners. Rollers should be nylon or stainless steel, not bare plastic, so they survive the heat. Edges should carry brush seals that close the gaps mosquitoes use.
Ask how the screen is serviced. Mesh, rollers, handles, and latches should all be replaceable without rebuilding the frame. A screen with no serviceable parts is a disposable product, and in this climate, everything eventually needs a part replaced.
Finally, look at the track design. A shallow, cleanable bottom track collects less grit and is easier to wipe down than a deep channel. Small details like this decide whether maintenance is a two-minute job or a chore you avoid.
Ask for a Measurement Visit
The visit tells you everything about the supplier. They should measure at several points, check for an existing screen channel, note the frame color, look at how the door operates, and bring mesh samples for you to compare. The whole thing takes about fifteen minutes per door.
Our measurement visit is free, and so is the quote. We serve Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, and Ras Al Khaimah. Call +971 52 443 2655 or message WhatsApp to book.

FAQ
What is the most important thing when choosing a door screen?
Accurate measurement and proper edge sealing. The best mesh in the world will not help if insects can walk around the panel.
Should I choose the mesh or the frame first?
The frame type follows the door type, and the mesh follows the household. Decide the screen type from the doorway, then pick the mesh for your pets, dust, and insect pressure.
Can one supplier handle different screen types?
A proper workshop can. We build sliding, hinged, and pleated screens, so each doorway in your home gets the type that suits it.
How long does a door mesh screen last?
The frame lasts indefinitely with basic care. Mesh lasts many years in normal use, and worn mesh, rollers, and handles are all replaceable.
Is the measurement visit really free?
Yes. The visit and the quote are both free, with no obligation, across Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, and Ras Al Khaimah.
