A sliding mesh net for balcony doors is a framed screen panel that glides across your balcony door to keep insects out while the glass stays open. It sounds simple, and it is, but a few details decide whether the screen works flawlessly for years or becomes a daily annoyance. Here is what to know before you order one.
We make every screen in our Dubai workshop to site measurements taken at a free visit. The full range is on our sliding door fly screens page, and this article covers the practical points buyers ask about most.
Retrofitting Screens on Existing Balcony Doors
Almost every sliding balcony door in the UAE can take a retrofit screen. The panel needs a track to run in. Many door frames already include a screen channel from the original installation, and the new panel drops straight into it. Where the channel is missing, we fit a slim secondary track inside the frame.
The retrofit does not damage the door, the tiles, or the wall. Nothing is drilled into visible surfaces in a way that cannot be reversed, which is why landlords and building managements rarely object. If you rent, this is one of the few home improvements you can make without asking permission first, though checking your tenancy terms never hurts. When you move out, the panel lifts out and the track can be removed cleanly, leaving the door exactly as you found it.
Track Types and What They Change
A top-hung screen hangs its weight from the upper track, with the bottom rail acting as a guide. This keeps the bottom track shallow, so there is almost no lip to trip on or trap dirt. A bottom-rolling screen carries its weight on the lower track, which suits heavier panels and very wide openings.
For a standard apartment balcony door, either works. Top-hung gives the cleanest threshold and the easiest cleaning. Bottom-rolling gives extra stability on large panels. During the measurement visit, we recommend the type that suits your specific door and opening size.
Seal Quality and Bug Gaps
The mesh stops insects. The seals stop them going around the mesh. Brush seals along the vertical edges, the meeting rail, and the top and bottom of the panel close the gaps that mosquitoes exploit. A screen without proper edge sealing looks finished but leaks insects at the sides.
This is the detail that separates a workshop-built screen from a generic off-the-shelf panel. Off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes and leave gaps at the edges of non-standard frames. A screen built to your measurements, with seals fitted to the actual frame, closes those gaps completely.
One Panel or Two
Standard balcony doors take one sliding screen panel that parks to one side. Wide openings, roughly two meters and above, work better with two panels meeting in the middle. Each panel stays manageable in weight, and you can open either side independently.
Two-panel setups need a meeting rail where the panels join, fitted with brush seals so the center stays bug-proof. The rails add a slim vertical line to the opening, which most people stop noticing within a day.
What Happens at the Measurement Visit
The visit is free and takes about fifteen minutes per door. We measure the frame height and width at several points, check for an existing screen channel, note the frame color for matching, and look at how the glass door operates so the screen track sits correctly alongside it.
We bring mesh samples, so you can choose between standard fiberglass, pet-resistant, and fine-dust meshes on the spot. The quote is free at the measurement visit, with no obligation. After that, the panel is built in the workshop and fitted on a second short visit.

FAQ
Can a sliding mesh net be fitted to any balcony door?
Nearly all sliding, sliding-and-fixed, and lift-and-slide balcony doors can take one. The track arrangement differs by door type, which is why we measure on site.
Will the screen damage my door frame?
No. The screen uses the existing channel or a slim added track, with no damage to the frame, tiles, or walls.
How do I clean a sliding mesh net?
Brush the mesh with a soft brush or vacuum it with a brush attachment, and wipe the track with a damp cloth every few weeks to keep the rollers smooth.
Can the screen be removed later?
Yes. The panel lifts out of the track for deep cleaning or if you move out, and the track can be left in place or removed cleanly.
Do you cover Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah?
Yes. We serve Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, and Ras Al Khaimah. Reach us on +971 52 443 2655 or WhatsApp.
