Fly Screen Repair in Dubai

Fly Screen Repair in Dubai

Repair First, Replace Last

Fly screens wear out. Mesh tears, rollers grind flat, brush strips go bald, and frames get bent by a forced panel or a gust through an open door. The good news is that most of it is repairable. Frames usually outlast their mesh by years, and a repair costs a fraction of a new screen. This guide covers what can be fixed on fly screens in Dubai homes and when replacement is the honest answer.

Torn Mesh and Re-Meshing

Torn mesh is the most common repair. Cats climb it, dogs push through it, a ladder leans against it, or years of sun make it brittle enough to split at a touch. The fix is re-meshing: the old mesh comes out, the frame is cleaned, and new mesh is fitted and tensioned into the same frame.

Re-meshing works on any frame that is still straight and sound. It is the repair to choose when the damage is in the mesh only. While the frame is open, it is worth upgrading the mesh if the household has changed since the screen was made: a new cat means pet-resistant mesh is now the sensible choice.

Rollers and Brush Strips

Sliding screens live or die by their rollers. Sand in the track grinds them flat, and a panel that drags is a panel whose rollers are worn. Replacing rollers is a small job: the panel lifts out, the old rollers come off, new ones go on, and the height adjustment is set so the panel runs square.

Brush strips are the fuzzy seals along the edges. When they flatten with age, insects walk around the panel through the gap. New strips restore the seal. If insects are getting past a screen that looks intact, flattened brush strips are the first thing to check.

Track Problems

Bent or dented tracks stop panels running true. Minor dents can sometimes be worked out. Badly damaged tracks want replacing, which means matching the track profile to the window frame. We measure the existing profile and source a match, which is why a photo of the track sent before the visit helps.

Tracks also fill with sand and grit. Before assuming a track is damaged, vacuum it thoroughly. A surprising number of “broken” screens just need their tracks cleaned.

Bent Frames

A bent frame is the one fault that usually means replacement. Aluminium screen frames are light extrusions. Once bent, they can sometimes be straightened, but they never run as true as a new frame, and the corner joints weaken when forced. If the frame is bent and the screen drags no matter what, a new panel made to the same measurements is the right call.

Repair vs Replace: The Honest Version

Repair when the frame is straight and the damage is in the consumable parts: mesh, rollers, strips, handles, latches. Replace when the frame is bent, the corner joints have failed, or the screen was made to the wrong size in the first place and never fitted properly.

We repair screens made by other companies as well as our own. The measurement visit identifies what each screen needs, and the quote is free at the measurement visit.

Preventing the Next Repair

Vacuum sliding tracks every couple of months. Never force a dragging panel: find out why it drags. Keep cats off standard mesh by fitting pet-resistant mesh where they climb. Wipe frames down when they look dusty; grit on the frame ends up in the track.

Most repairs we do are for damage that built up over time. A screen that gets basic attention lasts years longer than one that is ignored until it fails. For the full picture on keeping insects out the first time, read our guide to mosquito nets in Dubai for windows and doors.

FAQ

Can you re-mesh a screen made by another company?

Yes. Re-meshing only needs a straight, sound frame. We re-mesh screens from any maker, and we can upgrade the mesh type at the same time.

How long does a repair visit take?

Most repairs are done in a single visit: re-meshing, roller replacement, and strip replacement are all same-visit jobs. The visit length depends on how many screens need work.

My sliding screen jumps out of the track. What is wrong?

The panel is set too low, or the rollers have collapsed. Adjusting the roller height fixes it if the rollers are sound. If the rollers are worn flat, they need replacing.

Is it worth repairing a very old screen?

If the frame is straight, yes. A re-meshed old frame works as well as a new screen. If the frame is bent or the corners are failing, put the money toward a new panel instead.
