Screens wear out. Mesh tears, rollers grind flat, brush strips go hard, and frames get bent by a ladder or a football. Most of this is repairable, and repair is usually the sensible choice before replacement. This guide covers the faults we see in Abu Dhabi homes, what each one needs, and when a screen is beyond repair. We repair screens made by other companies as well as our own, and we make fly screens in Abu Dhabi to order when replacement is the better call.
Torn mesh: the most common fault
Mesh tears from claws, from garden tools leaning against a ground-floor screen, from children pushing, and from years of sun making fibreglass brittle. A small tear can be patched, but a patch is a stopgap. The proper fix is re-meshing: the old mesh comes out, new mesh is stretched into the existing frame, and the screen goes back as good as new.
Re-meshing makes sense when the frame, rollers, and fixings are still sound. It takes less time than a new screen and reuses the frame that already fits your window. On the service visit we check the frame first, because there is no point putting new mesh in a bent frame.
Worn rollers on sliding screens
Rollers are a consumable part. Abu Dhabi dust gets into the bearings no matter how often you clean the track, and after a few years the wheels wear flat or seize. The signs are a panel that drags, jumps, or needs a shove to move.
Roller replacement is a standard service job. We take the panel out, fit new rollers, set the height so the panel runs square, and check the brush strips at the same time. A door that gets heavy daily use will need this more often than a bedroom window screen. There is nothing wrong with the screen. It is maintenance, like changing brake pads.
Flat brush strips and edge gaps
Brush strips are the fuzzy seals along the edges of sliding screens. They close the gap between the screen and the track. Heat and dust flatten them over time until insects can slip past the edges even though the mesh is intact.
This fault is easy to miss, because the screen looks fine. Run a finger along the strips. If they are flat and hard instead of springy, they need replacing. New strips press into the same channel, and the seal is restored. We check strips on every service visit, because a screen with dead strips is a screen with a hole in it.
Bent frames and damaged corners
Frames bend from impacts, from being forced when a roller seized, and from removal and refitting done carelessly. A slightly bent frame can sometimes be straightened and re-squared. A badly bent frame cannot hold mesh tension evenly, and the mesh will wrinkle or pull out of the spline. At that point replacement is the honest answer.
Corner keys crack with age and heat cycling. A corner that has let go shows as a frame that flexes at one corner. New corner keys are a small fix if the profile itself is straight.
Repair or replace: how we decide
We look at three things. The frame: straight and solid means repair is on the table. The fixings: if the screen still mounts properly to the window, repair works. The cost balance: when a screen needs mesh, rollers, strips, and a corner key all at once, a new screen made to the same size is often the better value, and it comes with everything fresh.
We say which it is on the visit. The quote is free at the measurement visit, and it covers both options when both are viable so you can choose.
What a service visit covers
A service visit is a health check for all the screens in the home. We go through every screen, note the mesh condition, test sliding panels, check strips and rollers, and tighten anything that has worked loose in the heat. Small fixes happen on the spot. Anything bigger gets a quote before we touch it. Most villas take under an hour for the check itself.

FAQ
Do you repair screens made by another company?
Yes. We service and repair screens from other makers, including re-meshing, roller replacement, and brush strip replacement. The visit identifies what each screen needs.
My cat tore the mesh. Can just the mesh be replaced?
Yes, if the frame is straight. Re-meshing puts new mesh in your existing frame. For pet homes we recommend tougher aluminium mesh so it does not happen again.
How often do rollers need replacing?
It depends on use and dust. A busy sliding door in a dusty spot might need rollers every few years. A bedroom window screen can go much longer. Cleaning the track regularly stretches the interval.
The frame is bent. Is it finished?
Not always. Slight bends can be straightened. Badly bent frames that will not hold mesh tension need replacing. We will tell you which one you have.
Can you match my existing screens when replacing one?
Yes. We match the frame colour and mesh type so the replacement looks like the rest.
