Window Insect Screens for Dubai Homes

Window Insect Screens for Dubai Homes

Sealed Edges Stop Every Insect

Every Dubai home needs a window insect screen. The evenings are warm enough to keep windows open most of the year, and insects follow the air in. A screen is the simplest fix, but only when it is fitted properly and made for this climate.

This guide explains what matters when choosing a fixed window fly screens solution for a Dubai home, from the mesh weave to the frame fit. We make every screen in our Dubai workshop, and the details below are what our measurement visit checks for.

Why Dubai Needs Better Screens

Dubai windows face more than insects. Fine dust blows in on windy days, sand builds up in tracks, and strong sun beats down on frames for most of the year. A screen that works fine in a mild climate can sag, rattle, or let gaps open around the edges here.

The most common failure is the gap. A screen panel that is slightly too small leaves a slit along one edge, and insects walk straight through it. The second most common failure is loose mesh. Heat makes cheap fiberglass mesh expand and sag, creating bellies that insects slip under. Both problems come down to fitting, not materials.

The Mesh That Works Here

For most Dubai homes, standard fiberglass mesh with a weave fine enough to stop mosquitoes is the right choice. It blocks the insects, resists the sun for years, and does not rust. Aluminium mesh is stronger and suits ground-floor windows where pets or children push against the screen, but it is more visible and costs more to make.

The mesh size matters more than most people think. Standard weave stops flies and mosquitoes. If sand gnats are the problem, usually near gardens or landscaping, a finer weave is worth the slight loss of airflow. We check this at the measurement visit because the answer depends on the location of the window, not just the homeowner.

Frame Fit Matters More Than Brand

A well-fitted aluminium frame seals the full perimeter of the opening. No clips missing, no corners lifting, no light showing through the edge. When we measure, we check whether the window recess is square, because many older Dubai apartments have frames that are slightly out of square after years of settling.

If the opening is not square, the screen frame is made to match the actual shape, not the theoretical rectangle. A stock-size screen from a shop cannot do this, which is why ready-made screens so often leave gaps.

Sliding Windows Need Sliding Screens

Most Dubai homes have sliding windows. A fixed panel on a sliding window means you cannot slide the sash, which defeats the purpose of the window. The screen needs its own track beside the sash track so both move independently.

Sliding screen tracks collect sand and dust. We fit brush strips and smooth rollers so the screen glides even when the track is not perfectly clean, but a quick wipe every few months keeps it moving like new.

What the Measurement Visit Covers

Our visit to your home is free. We measure each window, check the opening type, note which insects are a problem in that room, and recommend the mesh and screen type. The quote is free at the measurement visit, and everything is made to order in our Dubai workshop.

To compare fixed panels against screens you can open, see our breakdown of fixed vs openable window screens.

FAQ

Do window insect screens work against cockroaches?

Yes, if the screen is fitted without gaps. Cockroaches enter through openings around window edges, not through the mesh. A sealed frame stops them. If they are coming through drains or door gaps, screens alone will not fix it.

How often should screens be cleaned in Dubai?

Wipe the mesh with a damp cloth every two to three months. Dust buildup blocks airflow and makes the screen look grey. Sliding tracks need the same treatment so rollers keep moving.

Can screens be fitted to old aluminium windows?

Yes. Most Dubai buildings from the 2000s onwards use standard aluminium window profiles, and we make frames to fit them. Very old or damaged frames may need a small repair first, which we check during the measurement visit.

Do screens block dust and sand?

They block larger dust and sand grains but not fine airborne dust. Mesh is made to stop insects, not filter air. Finer weaves catch more dust but also cut airflow more, so there is a trade-off.

Can the mesh be replaced without replacing the frame?

Yes. When the mesh wears out, we remove the old mesh and fit new mesh into the existing aluminium frame. This is much cheaper than a full replacement and keeps a good frame in service for many more years.
