Door Nets for Mosquitoes

Door Nets for Mosquitoes

Doors are where mosquitoes enter

Windows get most of the attention, but doors let in most of the mosquitoes. A door opens wide, stays open while people and pets pass through, and gives insects a direct path into the house. If you are serious about keeping mosquitoes out, door nets are where the battle is won. This guide covers door nets in the context of mosquito nets in Dubai homes.

Every exterior door in the house is a candidate: front door, back door, kitchen door, balcony doors, patio sliders. The question is never whether a door needs a net. It is which type suits that particular door.

Why doors matter more than windows

Think about how insects actually enter. A window opens a crack for ventilation. A door opens fully, several times an evening, while people carry things in and out. Each opening is a window of opportunity measured in seconds, and mosquitoes are fast. Nets on doors close this gap.

Doors also stay open longer. On a pleasant evening the patio door stands open for hours. Without a screen, that is hours of free entry. A screen door across the opening lets the air in and keeps the insects out, which is the entire point of opening the door in the first place.

Hinged door nets

Hinged screen doors suit single doors: front doors, kitchen doors, side doors. They swing like a normal door and usually include a self-closer, which is the critical feature. A screen door that does not close itself will be left open, and a screen door that stays open does not keep insects out.

The closer needs to be strong enough to pull the door shut against a breeze but gentle enough not to slam. This is set on fitting day and can be adjusted later. A magnetic catch or latch holds the door closed once the closer has done its work.

Sliding door nets

Sliding screen doors suit sliding glass doors, which are the standard patio and balcony door in Dubai. The screen runs on its own track beside the glass, sliding open and closed with one hand. Nothing swings, so furniture can sit right next to the door.

Brush seals along the track keep insects from slipping around the edges. The track needs to stay clean to glide well, so a quick wipe every few weeks is part of the routine in dusty months. For very wide sliders, double panels or a pleated screen cover the span.

Pleated door nets

Pleated screens fold into a slim stack at the side of the doorway. They suit wide openings and doorways where you want the screen to disappear when open. The pleated mesh is made to fold thousands of times, and top and bottom tracks guide it smoothly.

Pleated door nets are popular for the wide openings between living rooms and terraces in newer Dubai villas. They handle spans that would need two sliding panels, with a neater result.

The magnetic curtain question

Magnetic curtain nets are everywhere online: cheap, tool-free, hands-free. They are also the most complained-about option. The magnets collect dust and stop meeting, wind blows the panels apart, and the seal at the sides is approximate at best. They work as a temporary measure, but a fitted screen door is the lasting fix.

If you already have one and mosquitoes still get in, the fix is a fitted screen door, not a better curtain. A fitted door seals on all four sides and closes itself. The difference is immediate and obvious from the first evening.

Fitting and sealing

A door net lives or dies by its edges. Brush seals, threshold seals and a closer that pulls the door fully shut are what make it work. On fitting day, test every door yourself: open it, let it close, and run your eye along every edge. Gaps at the threshold are the most common failure point and the easiest to fix on the spot.

Doors used by pets need tougher mesh low down, and doors used by kids need safe closing speeds. Mention both at the measurement visit. When you are ready to book, see where to get nets fitted in Dubai.

FAQ

Do I need nets on every door?

Every exterior door that gets opened regularly, yes. Front, back, kitchen and patio doors at minimum. Interior doors need nothing. Unused side doors can wait.

Can door nets be fitted on rented villas?

Screen doors fix to the door frame with small screws. Most landlords accept them as an improvement, but check your tenancy terms first. Many tenants leave them as an upgrade.

Do door nets stop cats getting out?

A closed screen door keeps cats in, but standard mesh will not survive determined clawing. Ask for pet-resistant mesh, or consider a screen door with a lower solid panel, if your cats test the mesh.
