Fly screens in Emirates Hills work hard. Wide pleated panels fold and unfold across terrace doors daily, tall sliding screens glide in their tracks through the cooler months, and fixed screens sit in the sun year-round. Over time, mesh tears, frames get knocked, rollers wear, and cords fray. The good news is that most of this is repairable. A screen does not need replacing because its mesh tore or its rollers gave out; those are parts, and parts can be renewed. This article covers the damage we see most in the community, how a repair visit works, and when replacement genuinely makes more sense.

Common damage in villa screens
Torn or holed mesh is the most frequent callout. Wide panels catch on door handles, pets push through, and wind-blown grit slowly abrades mesh that is always in place. On pleated screens, the mesh can also wear where it folds, and the cords that guide the pleats fray with heavy use.
Frames suffer their own knocks. Sliding panels get pushed off their tracks, corners loosen, and tall panels can bow if they were not built rigidly enough for the span. Tracks fill with dust and grit, rollers flatten, and latches stop catching. Retractable roller screens add worn springs and pull cords to the list.
None of this is unusual, and none of it means the screen was badly made. Moving parts wear; that is what they do. Our fly screen repair service in Dubai covers all of it, including screens originally fitted by other companies.
Repair or replace: how to decide
Repair is the right call when the frame is sound and the damage is in replaceable parts: mesh, rollers, cords, springs, latches, handles. A re-mesh gives a screen a fresh face, and new rollers make a dragging slider glide again, all for far less disruption than a full replacement.
Replacement makes sense when the frame itself is bent beyond straightening, when corrosion has taken hold, or when the screen was never the right type for the opening and has struggled since day one. A sliding panel that was built too wide for its track, for example, will keep failing until it is remade properly. We will tell you honestly which side of the line your screen falls on.

What a repair visit involves
The visit starts with an inspection of every screen you want looked at, not just the one that prompted the call. Villa owners often do not notice a second torn panel or a track full of grit until someone points it out, and catching these early keeps small jobs small.
Mesh replacement is done with the frame in place where possible. The old mesh comes out, new mesh goes in, matched as closely as possible to the existing type and colour. Rollers, cords, springs and latches are replaced with parts suited to the screen, and tracks are cleaned out so panels run true again. The fitter tests every moving screen before leaving.
Keeping screens working after repair
A little care stretches the life of a repaired screen considerably. Brush tracks clear of dust and grit now and then, especially on doors facing the golf course where maintenance work stirs up debris. Guide pleated panels gently rather than yanking them, and lift sliding panels out of their tracks occasionally to clear what has collected underneath.
Check mesh each season for small holes, because a small tear caught early is a quick repair and a large one means a full re-mesh. And if a screen starts dragging or catching, call before forcing it; forcing a stiff screen is how frames get bent.
Can torn mesh be replaced without a new frame?
Usually, yes. If the frame is straight and sound, the old mesh is removed and new mesh fitted into the existing frame. The screen keeps its frame and its fit, and only the mesh is new.
Do you repair screens fitted by another company?
Yes. We repair screens regardless of who made or fitted them. If a part is unusual we will say so, but most screens use standard components that can be sourced or matched.
How long does a repair visit take?
Most single-screen repairs are finished in one visit. Re-meshing several wide panels or replacing tracks can take longer, and the fitter will tell you at the inspection what the job needs.
Will the repair match the existing mesh and frame?
Mesh is matched as closely as possible in type and appearance. Where an exact match is not available, we will show you the options before proceeding so there are no surprises.
